Turning Construction Waste into New Value.
Particleboard is a type of wood-based panel widely used for flooring in apartments and as a core material for furniture. While manufacturing typically requires purchasing wood chips, Tokyo Board Industries instead collects wood waste from construction sites in the Tokyo metropolitan area and processes it into chips in-house to manufacture particleboard. Their recycling rate for wood waste exceeds 99%. “Our mission is to help mitigate climate change,” says President Inoue.
Commitment to Disaster Recovery through Waste Management.
During the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, an affiliated factory of Tokyo Board Industries was struck, and the company lost many valued employees. Driven by a desire to support the recovery, President Inoue dedicated the company’s resources to debris removal, focusing on the collection and processing of wood waste. The company has since remained committed to disaster relief, providing essential support following the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake and the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake.
Stretching the potential for a circular future.
Moving forward, the company is focused on developing new applications for particleboard and expanding its reach into everyday products. By branding its initiatives to optimize finite resources and reduce environmental impact, the company aims to promote climate action throughout society. Tokyo Board Industries’ vision is rooted in an unwavering commitment to achieving a truly sustainable, circular economy.
